Professor of Internal Medicine – Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases at University of Nicosia Medical School

Dr Ioannou is a graduate of the Medical School of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), with specialization in Internal Medicine and Diabetology, at the University Clinic of Internal Medicine at the hospital “Evangelismos” in Athens.

He holds a PhD from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA).

He received postgraduate training at Kings College Hospital in London, at the Diabetic Foot Clinic.

He is a permanent and lifelong member of the Hellenic National Centre for the Research, Prevention and Treatment of Diabetes Mellitus and its complications (H.N.D.C.), a founding member of the Medical Training Academy of University of Athens, and a member of the Professional Board of the American Diabetes Association.
In addition, he is a member of the Cyprus Diabetes Association, where he served as president, and of the Greek, European and American Diabetes Associations.

Dr. Ioannou’s research interests are in the field of Diabetes Mellitus and specifically Diabetic Neuropathy, Intensive Insulin Therapy, Insulin Receptors/Insulin Resistance, Obesity and Somatostatin, with several publications and papers in Greek and International journals and conferences.

Since 2017, he has been providing educational work, teaching medical students in Internal Medicine at St. George’s University of London Medical School and University of Nicosia Medical School, as Professor of Internal Medicine – Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases.

Dr Ioannou owns a private practice in Limassol and has been attending to patients in the fields of Internal Medicine, Diabetes, Metabolic Diseases and Obesity, since 1991.
